IPC Classes and Electronics Standards We Apply

Electronics acceptance depends on the product class your drawing specifies. Class 1 covers general electronics. Class 2 covers dedicated service products such as industrial and commercial equipment. Class 3 covers high-reliability products such as medical, aerospace, and safety-critical automotive electronics.

Standard What it governs Where we apply it
IPC-A-610 Acceptability of electronic assemblies PCBA inspection and first articles

J-STD-033 Handling of moisture-sensitive devices MSL storage and floor life audits
ANSI/ESD S20.20 ESD control programs ESD compliance audits
SAE AS5553 Counterfeit electronic part avoidance Component sourcing and incoming inspection

Our PCBA and Electronics Inspection Services in Mexico

At AmrepMexico, our engineers cover each process point where electronics defects start, from component receipt to final shipment. We offer:

EMS Supplier Audits

We perform EMS supplier audits in Mexico for qualification, process verification, or problem resolution. Each audit covers SMT lines, test operations, traceability, and the supplier's quality system. You receive a scored report with corrective actions prioritized by risk to your product.

Incoming Component and Counterfeit Inspection

We verify incoming components against approved manufacturer lists, part markings, date codes, and packaging. Parts from unauthorized sources are screened following AS5553 practices, and suspect lots go to a qualified lab for testing. You keep counterfeit and mislabeled parts off the production line.

ESD and MSL Process Audits

We audit ESD controls against ANSI/ESD S20.20 and moisture-sensitive device handling against J-STD-033. The audit checks grounding, workstation compliance, dry storage, floor life tracking, and bake records. You find the gaps behind latent failures and popcorning before they reach the field.

SMT Process Verification

We verify solder paste printing, SPI data, component placement, and reflow profiles against the approved process. Profiles are checked against component and paste manufacturer limits for each product. You get stable soldering instead of defects caught only at inspection.

AOI and X-ray Escape Analysis

We review AOI and X-ray programs, call rates, and escapes to confirm that inspection catches real defects. BGAs and bottom-terminated components are checked for voiding, bridging, and head-in-pillow. You receive evidence that automated inspection is protecting your product.

PCBA First Article Inspection

We perform PCBA first article inspection against the BOM, the drawing, and the specified IPC class. Each first article covers component polarity, values, placement, solder quality, and markings. You release production knowing the first board matches the design.

Test Coverage Review

We review ICT, flying probe, boundary scan, and functional test programs against your product's failure risks. Coverage gaps are mapped to the defects each test stage can and cannot detect. You understand exactly what reaches your plant untested.

IPC-A-610 In-Process Inspection

We provide IPC-A-610 inspection in Mexico at defined points across the production run. Each inspection applies your specified class to solder joints, component mounting, and cleanliness. You catch workmanship issues while the lot can still be reworked.

Cable and Wire Harness Inspection

We provide cable harness inspection in Mexico to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for crimping, routing, labeling, and terminations. Crimp height, pull test, and continuity results are verified against your specification. You receive harnesses that meet both workmanship and electrical requirements.

Conformal Coating and Cleanliness Verification

We verify conformal coating coverage, thickness, and keep-out areas against your drawing. Cleanliness processes and ionic contamination results are reviewed for no-clean and washed assemblies. You reduce the risk of corrosion and electrochemical migration in service.

Rework and Repair Oversight

We audit rework stations and repair records against IPC-7711/7721 and your rework limits. Each reworked board is traced to its defect, operator, and reinspection result. You get controlled rework instead of hidden repairs.

Box Build and Pre-Shipment Inspection

We inspect final assemblies for workmanship, labeling, firmware revision, functional results, and packaging before release. Sampling plans follow your AQL or customer requirements. You stop nonconforming units before they cross the border.

Defect Containment and SCAR Management

We lead containment, sorting, and supplier corrective action when defects are found. We verify root causes with data and check corrective actions on the line. You close problems in the process instead of repeating them in the next lot.

How AmrepMexico Controls Electronics Quality

1. Product and IPC Class Definition

We review your drawings, BOM, IPC class, and customer requirements. You receive an inspection plan built around your product risks.

2. EMS Line Assessment

We assess the supplier's lines, test stages, and controls on site. You receive a gap list that becomes the working action plan.

3. Inspection at Defect Origin Points

We inspect and verify where your defects start, not only at the end of the line. You get findings while production can still respond.

4. Quality Data Reporting

We report DPMO, first-pass yield, AOI escape rate, test yield, and corrective action status. You receive objective data instead of supplier self-reporting.

5. Root Cause Elimination

We drive recurring defects to root cause using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methods. You see quality improve lot over lot.

Electronics Sectors AmrepMexico Supports in Mexico

Automotive Electronics

Automotive modules combine IPC workmanship with launch and traceability requirements. We verify both at the EMS line.

  • IATF 16949 and PPAP for electronic modules
  • AEC-Q100 and AEC-Q200 component qualification evidence
  • Serial traceability for safety-critical boards

Medical Electronics

Medical electronics depend on processes running exactly as validated. We confirm the line matches the validation record.

  • ISO 13485 process controls
  • Validated process change control
  • Device history and traceability records

Aerospace and Defense Electronics

Aerospace programs require strict first article and build controls. We verify both before parts ship.

  • AS9100 quality system requirements
  • AS9102 first article inspection
  • FOD prevention and key characteristic control

Industrial and Consumer Electronics

Industrial and consumer products balance cost with reliability. We set inspection levels that match the product's real risk.

  • ISO 9001 quality system controls
  • Risk-based sampling plans
  • Material compliance documentation

Common Questions About Electronics QC in Mexico

Who decides which IPC class applies to my product?

The OEM decides. The class should be stated on the drawing, purchase order, or contract. If it isn't specified, the EMS supplier may build to its own default, which is often Class 2. Confirm the class in writing before first articles so inspection and acceptance criteria match your intent.

Can third-party inspection happen without slowing EMS production?

Yes. Inspections are scheduled around line rhythm and focus on defined process points instead of full stops. Most verification runs in parallel with production. Holds are used only when a nonconformance puts the lot at risk.

What should we do if counterfeit parts may already be in production?

Quarantine the affected lots, identify every assembly built with the suspect date codes, and send samples to a qualified lab for analysis. Notify your customer if shipped product may be affected. The sourcing decision that let the parts in also needs corrective action, not just the lot.

Does AOI replace manual inspection?

No. AOI is fast and consistent on visible joints, but it can't see hidden joints under BGAs, and its results depend on how well it's programmed. X-ray, manual IPC-A-610 inspection, and electrical testing each catch defects the others miss.

How often should an EMS supplier be audited?

It depends on product risk, supplier performance, and recent changes. High-reliability products and suppliers with rising defect rates justify more frequent audits. Line moves, new equipment, ownership changes, and major engineering changes should trigger an audit regardless of the schedule.

Can you verify RoHS and REACH compliance?

We verify that compliance documents, material declarations, and supplier certificates match the parts and lots in production. Where your program requires it, we coordinate analytical testing with qualified labs and confirm the results are traceable to specific lots.

Do you use your own inspection equipment?

We typically verify the EMS supplier's own AOI, X-ray, and test systems and their programs. Testing that needs specialized equipment, such as cross-sectioning or counterfeit analysis, is coordinated with qualified laboratories.
